The island stretches about 300 kilometres and has about 120 kilometres of coastline. It is part of the Ionian Islands known as the Heptanese, a group of seven islands south of Corfu.

Lefkada beaches: opinions and tips

Along the 120 kilometres of coastline you will find the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. The most beautiful and scenic is Porto Katsiki, which is located near the village of Athani.

High, white cliffs protect this beach and create a beautiful contrast to the deep waters of the Ionian Sea. Adding to the beauty of the landscape are the colours of the lush vegetation in the surroundings.

The beach can be reached either by sea or by climbing a flight of about 100 steps in the rock.

Beaches for children

Some of Lefkada's beaches are easy to reach from the villages and towns on the coast by taking the road across the island, while other beaches are more difficult to reach. There are often stairs or paths to walk.

Among the most child-friendly are those at Kathisma and Kalamitsi, which are full of facilities and have shallow waters.

The beaches to the east of the island are almost all suitable for children.
